Welcome to the Parish Church of
St. John the Baptist

United with St. Leonard, Shipham and
St. Michael and All Angels, Rowberrow.

Whether you come to worship, or to enjoy the peace, or to marvel at the beauty of the building, welcome to Axbridge Church.

Remembrance Sunday

With lockdown beginning, we are planning for a small number of representatives to attend the War Memorial on Remembrance Sunday at 10.45am in line with recent government guidelines.

Instead of gathering in The Square we are encouraging people to mark this special moment by standing outside their home and keeping the two minute silence as we remember the sacrifice of past generations, and as we pray for peace in our world.  Here is the form of words we will be using at the War Memorial for people to join in with where they are. If any would like to bring a poppy to the memorial at some other time over the weekend, or to spend some time quietly in church, you will be very welcome.

The church is open daily during lockdown from 9am until 4pm for private prayer. We are not able to hold services in church but will be offering worship and fellowship online for those able to join us. Please ask for details of how to join.

Our Churches Are Still Open!

The Churchwardens and PCCs of our three churches have opened our church buildings for private prayer only, following the Government lockdown rules and guidelines on hygiene and distancing. Axbridge church and St Leonard’s Shipham are open daily from 9am-4pm.  Rowberrow Church is open by appointment, please contact  Jane Gunn.

Face Coverings should now be worn by all those attending a place of worship, as in shops and public places.

We continue to have online services using the Zoom platform .

From the Archbishops’ letter to the nation

Starting this week, we have asked every church to pray each day at 6pm.  There are three other responses that we want to encourage everyone to consider.  Let’s be calm, courageous, and compassionate. So many of us are holding so much pain - our own and the pain of those we love. We will need to be gentle, kind and patient with each other. In the first wave we showed we are a nation of compassion and kindness. Let’s dig deep and keep that love for our neighbours strong in this second time of struggle...

The full text of the letter is here.

The listing of services is here.  This includes Sunday and weekday services in our churches and online using Zoom.

Recordings of the Sunday Zoom services are posted on YouTube, which is easier for some to access. Please click here:

Tel: 01934 732261

email: churchoffice@uwclub.net

A gently sloping walkway at the top of the steps from The Square provides level access to Axbridge Church.  Access without steps is available from Church Lane (off St Mary's Street but this is quite steep), Back Lane and Chestnut Avenue.  See the map for details.
The Church Rooms are opposite the church entrance, a few steps down from the top of the steps from The Square.  There is level access from the public highway to the Church Rooms but note that the 'highway' in this case is The Church Steps.
There is limited 1 hour parking in The Square; note that this is regularly patrolled, including on Sunday.  There are two car parks, in Old Church Road and Moorland Street, signposted from The Square.
